Every year in July, top auctioneers from across the world gather together to network, learn, share and also compete for top honors in a variety of categories from auction marketing to world class bid calling.
Last week we met in Greensboro North Carolina for the 61st annual National Auctioneers Association Conference and Show.
It was an eventful week to say the least. In addition to bringing the entire family, which includes my 3 year old son and nearly 2 year old daughter, we decided to drive the 1,000 miles and include a water park along the way. What was I thinking? All kidding aside, it was a great time.
The week in Greensboro included teaching the Auction Technology Specialist Class (ATS) as well as participating in a panel discussion with some very talented and smart auctioneers.

I always enjoy visiting with many great auctioneers who I consider my auction family, and this year was no exception.
Thursday was a big highlight for me as I participated in my first business meeting and election as a member of the board of directors for the National Auctioneers Association.
It has been an honor serving The National Auctioneers Association and all of our members over the past year. Thank you for your confidence in electing me to this position last year, and I look forward to continuing to serve over the next two years.
Friday was a ton of fun as well, as this is the day when the best auctioneers in the country competed for the International Auctioneers Competition (IAC) and bragging rights as the top auctioneer in the world. Congratulations to my friend Peter Gehres who placed in the top 15. Also, congratulations to the winners in both the mens and womens division, Eli Detweiler and Kristine Fladeboe-Duininck. They were on top of their game.
A special congratulations goes out to International Junior Auctioneer Championship winner Nolan Bell. Nolan is a recent graduate of World Wide College of Auctioneering, where I have the honor of teaching, and he did a great job representing the school and the future of our industry.
A busy week away from the office makes for an even busier week when we get back. Thanks to everyone who kept the fires burning during our absence. We couldn’t do it without you.
